My first day of classes was quite lovely.

Creative Writing seems like it will be fun enough. The professor might be a bit whack, but the kids around me seemed pretty friendly. Apparently, one half of the class is partial to never-ending tragedies, which to me, are some of the most unrealistic stories. What kind of person wants to read a book filled with doom and gloom and never find anything remotely funny, hopeful, or pleasant in it? (i.e. I found Heart of Darkness hysterical, but no one else appeared to…) Even poor people can be happy. Life isn’t black and white, so total tragedy isn’t a good depiction of life. It’s not realistic peeps.

My Global Perspectives on War class is going to be phenomenal. I was in there for 1hr15min and I already learned a shitton of stuff. I love International Relations-esque classes. For instance, did you know the U.S. stopped nuclear testing in 1992 when Bill Clinton signed a treaty with most of the rest of the world, promising not to test nuclear weapons? Or that the U.S. has some 10,000 nuclear weapons on hand, counting the ones in storage? Or that the U.S. spends almost as much money on military as the rest of the world combined? As my girlfriend pointed out - that’s why we’re the policemen of the world. How completely stupid! I’m so excited to discuss topics in this class. The readings look super interesting, and the professor is trying to bring in a lot of guest speakers, including a really activist-y woman who sounds like a total badass. I can’t wait!

Then I saw my girlfriend and introduced her to one of my friends who I hadn’t seen all summer, which was lovely. We played a game of pokemon cards (my brother and I got back into them), and then I showed her around the dorm. She loves the kitchen just as much as we do. I offered to make her some foodstuffs, but she had unfortunately just eaten. Then we played Apples to Apples with the roommate, and hung around the dorm for a bit. It was really nice seeing her, and being able to show her around my new space. She had to run off - it wasn’t a long stay, but hopefully I’ll see her again sometime this week. We have thai food to eat, and plays to watch.

I also ran into my professor from both semesters last year, who I really loved. She asked after my classes, and I asked after her summer. She replied to this email I sent her over the summer a few days ago, and we talked a bit about that. The fact that she replied was pretty exciting too. We both agree: Vertigo > Citizen Kane.

As for the rest of the day, I really should get started on some homework, but I got side-tracked by the second fire alarm in the span of three days. People really need to stop burning popcorn, or whatever it was this time that set it off. At 9 I’m watching Warehouse 13, and afterward I’m taking one of my suitemates to go grocery shopping. I’ll pick up some dinner and maybe a few other things. Then it’s shower, and watching a movie with my roommate before sleep.

Today was seriously so wonderful. The weather cooled down a bit at the end, and I loved it. It was great seeing so many familiar faces, and a few new ones. I’m so glad I have this one friend in two of my classes. This other friend tried to get in the class with us, but couldn’t, which is sad, but she just invited me to go over to her house sometime this week. Excellent!
